Two Tampa police officers are dead after being shot this morning after a car was pulled over on a routine traffic charge. Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis, both 31, were shot in the head at 50th Street and 23rd Avenue, said Mayor Pam Iorio.
The incident started at around 2:15 a.m. when Curtis an officer pulled over the Toyota, which was missing a tag, near 50th Street and 23rd Avenue, police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said. The male passenger was wanted with violation offense warrant out of Jacksonville for a worthless check, so Curtis called for backup and Kocab came to the scene.
