New Zealand Earthquake 2011

A strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand’s second largest city Christchurch on Tuesday afternoon- February 22, 2011.

At least 65 people have been killed and many are injured. The earthquake destroyed the top of the iconic stone Christchurch Cathedral, which collapsed into a central city square. The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred shortly before 1pm of Feb 22, 2011. An aftershock of 5.6 magnitude hit the city about 15 minutes after the earthquake of magnitude 6.3

According the New Zealand Prime Minister Jonh Key, "This is just heartbreaking." "This may be New Zealand's darkest day."
