Samsung is betting on the popularity of Angry Birds, among other games, to sell its new line of high-tech television sets.
Samsung's Smart TV, which costs about half the price of a brand new car, will allow users to play the popular strategy on television for free, Ariel Arias, Samsung AV Business Unit Head, said during the launch at Bonifacio Global City last night.
More than 1500 games and social media applications can also be used and played for free on the console, making content as one of the product's mostimportant selling points.
"Ang dami talagang content, the Viki Premiere, the Angry Birds, etc. You also have the kids, the fitness. For me that is more important. And we are trying to develop as much local applications as possible," Arias told InterAksyon.
Besides catering to kids, the entertainment system will also enjoyed by every member of the family.
However, consumers may have to wait until 2013 before Samsung's Smart TV is available in stores.
Prices start at P300,000, Arias said.
"If you compare that with top of the line TVs about two years ago which is 550,000, it is almost 50 percent less. It is far better,” Arias said.
