MANILA, Philippines -- Two explosions, only minutes apart, rocked Palawan Thursday afternoon injuring two persons, a police official said.
Chief Supt. Artemio Hicban, regional police director of Mimaropa police, said the first explosion occurred at Quezon St., Bgy. Masagana in the town of El Nido at 5:30 p.m.
Initial reports showed that a househelp cook identified as Aiza Gay Mallari, 23, was about to throw garbage in a nearby garbage bin when, upon opening the bin, an explosion occurred injuring her.
About 10 minutes later, another explosion occurred in Puerto Princesa City near the bus terminal in Bgy. San Jose. Hicban said an old man had just alighted from the bus carrying a sack of rice when the sack suddenly exploded, injuring another civilian.
Hicban said the sack of rice came from Bataraza. The man who bought the sack was uninjured and was brought in for questioning.
The names of both victims are not immediately available.
Police are still determining the type of explosives used in both explosions and if the two are related.
