Cone faces fine for chair-throw, promises not to do it again

A sanction awaits B-MEG coach Tim Cone for throwing a chair in the Llamados’ 91-80 loss to Rain or Shine in the Governors’ Cup finals.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud said he was surprised by Cone’s actions, noting that it was the first time he saw such an outburst since taking over his post in 2010.

Cone will be fined P3,400 for committing his fourth technical foul of the conference during the game, and will also be meted a heavier penalty for the chair-throwing incident, which is deemed a “flagrant misconduct” according to the PBA.

The American coach was ejected immediately after the incident.

Cone, meanwhile, promised that the outburst would not be repeated.

“I have to keep my cool. I’m not helping our team flinging chairs. That’s the first and last time. I won’t do that again,” Cone wrote in a text message to InterAKTV.

Earlier, he expressed his frustration with the officiating, which allowed the Elasto Painters to get physical and take the Llamados out of their rhythm. He said it’s up to him to think of adjustments for his team in Game Two, which is set on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

“We’re still figuring that out. We got couple of games still to do so,” he said.
