US Democrats to endorse gay marriage
The Democratic Party is set to endorse same-sex marriage as it lays out its policies ahead of November presidential elections, media reports say.
A committee drafting a document of the party's positions ahead of its convention in September lent its unanimous approval for the move that would include the policy in the party platform for the first time, an unnamed source has told the Politico newspaper.
The draft platform must still be approved by a broader committee next month before being put to a vote at the convention.
US President Barack Obama voiced his support for gay marriage earlier this year after long refusing to specifically endorse the hot-button issue.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest declined to comment on the reports on Monday.
Every four years US political parties put forward their positions on major issues in party platforms adopted at their conventions leading up to the presidential election.
