Pacquiao's next foe known early next week

MANILA, Philippines – There is an ongoing confusion in Manny Pacquiao’s camp regarding his next fight.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum insisted that the boxer’s November 10 fight date is still a go, contrary to the statement made by the Filipino’s business adviser, Michael Koncz.

“Don't go overboard on this statement that the fight has to be on December 1st,” Arum told 8 Count News’ Brad Cooney in a short interview.

Arum said they are finalizing the details of the November 10 card and will come out with a formal announcement on Monday next week (Tuesday, Manila time).

“Everything will be decided by the weekend. I have had meetings with everyone and by Monday afternoon we will announce the place, the opponent, and the date,” said the veteran boxing promoter.

Pacquiao is suppose to choose his next opponent among Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Miguel Cotto.

Koncz was earlier quoted as saying that Pacquiao will make his ring return on December 1, instead of November 10.

He said the date had to be moved due to “conflicting schedules with the boxing and Manny’s personal affairs.”

“We’ve informed Top Rank that we cannot go on November 10,” Koncz said. “So (Top Rank chief executive) Bob Arum has moved the date to December 1.”

Arum said the personal affair Koncz was referring to was Pacquiao’s filing of candidacy for the 2013 elections.

The promoter said Pacquiao can authorize a representative to file his candidacy on his behalf.

“The election commission just ruled in the Philippines that Manny can authorize somebody to file for him. He doesn't have to be back in October. Manny can have an authorized representative file his papers for him.”

Pacquiao earlier announced that he will be running for governor of Sarangani province.
