MANILA - The broadband unit of Smart Communications Inc. is seeking a 15-year extension of its cellular mobile telephone system permit.
In a filing with the National Telecommunications Commission, Smart Broadband Inc. said the certificate of public convenience and necessity of its CMTS expired on August 18.
SBI said the extension of its CPCN will benefit the general public, consistent with the government policy of ensuring efficient and affordable telecommunications sevices.
"SBI has been providing quality service to its subscribers and is still fulfilling its mandate of providing the said service," the company said.
At end-June, SBI had a wireless broadband subscriber base of over 1.63 million, of which 1.1 million were on SmartBro’s prepaid service.
