Pacquiao becomes viral Internet punchline

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- It's the day after the biggest loss of Manny Pacquiao's career and Filipinos are still trying to figure out what went wrong.

“I just don't think he had it last night and that's okay. That's okay,” said Joyce Vitug of Freemont, California.

In a city where luck means everything, some believe not only was his altered training schedule unlucky, straying from his usual routines may have brought him bad luck.

For the first time, he watched the undercard match where countryman Mercito Gesta lost his title shot. He was also paid a visit by Mitt Romney.

Coincidentally, the defeated Pacman was knocked out right in front of the defeated Republican presidential candidate.

“He was watching the fight before his fight while he’s training or warming up like an hour or two at least three hours. He changed up a lot,” said Lester Acluba.

“You know that Manny Pacquiao is an Obama fan just like they met before and I was surprised Mitt Romney came to the fight and was like ‘Hi! I'm Mitt Romney I lost to Barack Obama. And all the Mexicans are like oh no. That's seems like a bad sign for Pacquiao,” said Owel Miranda of Burbank, California.

With the crushing loss coming on the Catholic holiday, the Immaculate Concepcion, some think this may be the work of a higher power.

“I think it's a sign of God because before he fights he always have that cross. And every time he goes to the fight he always have that and I was surprised he doesn't have that cross yesterday,” added Miranda.

Despite Filipinos dealing with the agony of defeat, some have found ways to laugh it off.

The fight was a non title match. However, the Internet has given the people's champ a new title, “The Planking Champion of 2012”, creating new viral terms "Pacquaioing" and "Plankquiao", spawning many Photoshop spoofs of the fallen Pacman.

“These guys are crazy. They have nothing to do they should be supporting Pacquiao even in defeat,” said Von Deguzman of Chicago.

“I have to admit it's kind of funny. They’re expected. But it happened really fast after the fight ended, everybody started copying that. Oh look they're planking. This and that it was funny,” said Alcuba.

Despite the stunning loss, Pacquiao fans say they still believe that the Pacman will bounce back and they're ready to support him when he gets back into the ring.
