PH Golf Open offers P30-M prize money

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Open – considered Asia’s oldest national golf open – is putting up a a record prize of $700,000, or roughly P30 million, for this year’s tournament.

Organizers are hoping that the huge pot will attract the best golfers in the world, including rising star and Filipino-Australian Jason Day.

“The Philippine Open will offer the biggest prize money and hopefully, the best players will play in the tournament,” said National Golf Association of the Philippines president Tommy Manotoc.

Day posted runner-up finishes in the 2011 Masters and U.S. Open.

The Philippine Open will be held in November at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Last year, the tournament gave away $300,000 in prize money, with Mardan Mamat of Singapore finishing in first place. – Report from ANC
