Coming soon: World's lightest 13-inch notebook

TOKYO - NEC Personal Computers Ltd. said Tuesday it will launch in November in Japan the world's lightest 13.3-inch notebook personal computer weighing less than 800 grams.

The 795-gram LaVie Z, the remodeled version of a notebook PC released in summer last year, will hit the domestic market on Nov. 21 with an expected retail price of about 185,000 yen.

In developing the product, the company used magnesium-lithium alloy to make the product light. It is also equipped with a power-saving "Igzo" liquid crystal display manufactured by Sharp Corp.

A 13.3-inch notebook PC with a touch-panel screen weighing about 964 grams will also be available with an expected retail price of about 175,000 yen, according to the company.

NEC Personal Computers, owned by Lenovo NEC Holdings B.V., a joint venture established in 2011 by Lenovo Group and NEC Corp., engages in production and sales of NEC-brand PCs in Japan.
