Why there are no firework-related injuries in Muntinlupa
MANILA, Philippines – No firecracker-related injuries have been reported in the city of Muntinlupa following a total ban on the display, sale, distribution and use of firecrackers and fireworks in the city.
Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said he issued an executive order banning firecrackers in the city based on the recommendation of the city health office and local police.
Muntinlupa Police has started confiscating both legal and illegal firecrackers being sold in the city.
The chief of Muntinlupa Police, Col. Roque Vega, said the confiscated items will be turned over and disposed by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Those caught selling firecrackers may face penalties, including the cancellation of business permit. Those caught using firecrackers may also face sanctions.
Authorities clarified that “luces” and other similar fireworks will be allowed.
Fireworks displays in non-residential areas supervised by licensed and authorized technicians are also allowed provided that a permit has been secured from the BFP Fire Marshal and the Philippine National Police. -- Report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
