NBA's Iverson planning return visit to PH
MANILA – SIxteen years after he first visited Manila, retired NBA player Allen Iverson is planning to visit the Philippines gain later this year.
Gary Moore, Iverson’s long-time manager, said they are currently negotiating with the Philippines’ Sports Network Management to finalize details for the former NBA scoring champion’s Manila visit.
Moore said Sports Network Management’s Sheryl Reyes has told to them that Iverson remains very popular in the Philippines.
“So he knows just how popular the sport has become there,” he said in a statement released to local sports media.
But Moore denied that Iverson, nicknamed “The Answer,” will be visiting Manila along with other former NBA superstars for a series of celebrity charity basketball events.
“It is my desire not to ever confuse the public. Allen will not be available in July and as his agent I have partnered with Sheryl Reyes and have complete confidence in her expertise as it relates to the market in the Philippines,” he said.
After a brief visit to Indonesia last October, Iverson expressed his wish to see more of Asia and the Philippines is next on his list.
He was the 1996 first-overall NBA draft pick and is best known for his playing years with the Philadephia 76ers.
After playing professionally for 15 years, he announced his retirement at the beginning of the 2013-14 NBA season.
