Hewlett-Packard recalls power cords worldwide


NEW YORK -Hewlett-Packard Co. said Tuesday it will recall AC power cords for HP and Compaq notebook computers worldwide, including 6 million cords in the United States and Canada as well as 296,000 cords in Japan.

These cords, sold from September 2010 through June 2012, have the potential to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards, the company said.

The recall comes after two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of minor property damage, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
