Ai Ai reveals she had Bell's palsy
MANILA -- Comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas had to miss two weeks of shooting for the upcoming movie "Past Tense" after she was diagnosed with Bell's palsy.
Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis caused by the inability to control facial muscles.
"Nagkaroon ako ng Bell's palsy for two weeks. Hindi ako naka-shoot for two weeks," delas Alas confirmed at the press conference of the Star Cinema film on Tuesday.
"Past Tense," which also stars Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, will open in theaters nationwide on November 26.
According to the medical website WebMD, the cause of Bell's palsy is not clear. It added that most people who have Bell's palsy recover completely, without treatment, in one to two months.
However, recovery in delas Alas's case took a much shorter time.
"Ibinigay sa akin ni Lord two weeks lang para makapahinga siguro ako sa mga lumalabas na isyu," delas Alas said, adding that she doesn't know how she developed it.
"Di natin alam saan galing (pwedeng stress) pero more of init lamig 'yon. Akala ko pangmatanda lang 'yon. Totoo pala yon na bawal mainit tapos lamig," she added.
The actress, who turned 50 on Tuesday, said she learned how to enjoy life because of this recent episode.
