MANILA – Users of the travel ratings website TripAdvisor have voted Spiral, the buffet restaurant of Sofitel Philippine Plaza, as one of their favorite fine dining spots in Asia.

Named after the hotel’s iconic grand staircase, Spiral is the lone Philippine entry in the Travelers’ Favorite Fine Dining Restaurants – Asia category of TripAdvisor’s 2014 Travelers’ Choice Awards, landing in 10th place.

At 11th place is Cocoon Restaurant Bar Beach Club in Seminyak, Indonesia followed by Café Jemme in Kerobokan, Indonesia; Kayuputi at St. Regis Bali Resort in Nusa Dua, Indonesia; Bukhara in New Delhi, India; Sarong Restaurant in Kerobokan, Indonesia; La Villa French Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Bambu Restaurant in Seminyak, Indonesia; La Badiane in Hanoi, Vietnam; Merah Putih Restaurant in Kerobokan, Indonesia; and Mozaic Restaurant Gastronomique in Ubud, Indonesia.

Reopened in 2012 after a year-long renovation, Spiral is divided into 21 dining “ateliers,” where guests can see the food prepared in front of them. Copious amounts of cheese and processed meats are housed in an atelier called L’Epicerie, which comes with a power sliding door.

Other ateliers serve salad and appetizers, sushi and sashimi, seafood, hot Japanese food, slow-cooked meats, pizzas, skewered steaks and seafood, noodles, Peking duck, Chinese stir-fry, dim sum, and cuisines from France, India, Thailand, Korea and the Philippines.

There are also stations dedicated to breads, pastries, chocolates and ice cream.
