Who's the richest man in Russia?

MANILA, Philippines - Some of Russia's richest men have lost billions of dollars due to plummeting oil prices and falling ruble.

Despite the crisis in Russia, Viktor Vekselberg, co-founder of conglomerate Renova Group, unseated Alisher Usmanov as Russia's richest man, according to a Wealth-X list of top 5 richest Russians.

Vekselberg’s current net worth stands at $14.7 billion, although his wealth shrank by $200 million in the period between March and December 2014.

On the other hand, Usmanov lost $4.5 billion or nearly 25 percent of his fortune between March and December 2014. His current net worth stands at $13.8 billion.

Investment mogul Mikhail Fridman also lost $2.7 billion or about 18 percent of his fortune between March and December 2014. His net worth is currently at $12.5 billion.

Wealth-X said only two tycoons on the list saw their net worth rise during the same period.

Roman Abramovich’s fortune went up by $100 million to $12.7 billion. Wealth-X noted his wealth was not significantly affected by the sanctions and the ruble crisis as most of his assets are tied to non-Russian companies such as Norilsk Nickel and Evraz PLC.

Alexei Mordashov saw his wealth increase by $1.6 billion since March, a 15.84 percent surge in his net worth to $11.7 billion. He is the main shareholder and CEO of Severstal, a Russian conglomerate with interests in metal, energy and mining companies.
