Fil-Am actor gets his big Hollywood break
HOLLYWOOD - Filipino-American actor Allen Evangelista was overjoyed to see so many supporters at the premiere of his movie "Project Almanac."
Evangelista is grateful that he's one of the lead stars of a big Hollywood movie.
In "Project Almanac", he plays a highly intelligent high school student who helped build a time machine.
"Being part of a big Michael Bay film and representing the Philippines on this film is so cool," Evangelista said.
He was born and raised in Los Angeles, but his father and mother hail from Manila and Pampanga, respectively. He last visited the Philippines when he was 7 years old.
Before his big movie break, the actor was a regular cast member of the TV show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," alongside Shailene Woodley.
Asked about his experience in Hollywood as an Asian American actor, Evangelista admitted it was tough.
"For the decent roles that you get, you're against every ethnicity. But I honestly think it is getting better and there are more roles out there for diversity and I hope it continues and I'm a part of it," he said.
As for his dream role, Evangelista said it's to play a Marvel superhero.
"A Marvel superhero would be the biggest dream. I'm a big comic book fan," he said.
He said the Hollywood buzz surrounding "Project Almanac" is helping ignite his career.
Evangelista also has a recurring role in the Golden Globe-winnings how "Brooklyn Nine-Nine."
He says he hopes to visit the Philippines in the near future.
