It seems the photo offended the sensibilities of some readers, although others didn't seem to mind the sexy photo.
Whatever their opinion, netizens took to Twitter to voice out their reaction to the controversial cover.
Sports Illustrated, however, defended the cover.
"After 50 years of swimsuit, what everyone knows is that one person's risqué is another's sexy," the magazine said in a statement to ABC News.
This year’s edition also featured UFC’s Ronda Rousey and tennis star Caroline Wozniacki as swimsuit models, as well as “plus size” models Robyn Lawley and Ashley Graham.
