UP students to compete in L'Oreal Brandstorm in Paris
MANILA, Philippines - A group of students from University of the Philippines -Diliman will be heading to Paris to compete in the global marketing competition L'Oreal Brandstorm 2015.
Team Storm Surge from UP-Diliman emerged as the Brandstorm 2015 Philippine National Champion. The team includes UP Business Administration students Peter Avila, Mirella Galang and Caitlin Gregorio, and mentored by Professor Luis Diego Lee.
L’Oréal Brandstorm has been considered the ultimate global marketing competition in the beauty industry since 1992 having challenged the world’s top students to turn ideas into products or services. In its 23 years, over 80,000 students from all over the world have taken on business cases related to L’Oréal’s extensive portfolio of international brands such as Kiehl’s, The Body Shop, and Maybelline.
In the competition in the Philippines, the UP students went up against student teams from Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU-Manila) and University of Asia & the Pacific (UA&P).
The students took on a business challenge in travel retail. The case study involved creating a new, unforgettable retail experience for Lancôme in its travel retail shops, to attract both new and loyal consumers.
"The 2015 competition may be tougher but it has made it all the more exciting... I am excited to see where Brandstorm will take these young intelligent minds in the future and see how this international competition can help hone their business acumen," said Tina Ampil, L’Oréal Philippines General Manager for Human Resources.
The winning team will fly to Paris in June to represent the Philippines and compete against 45 other countries in the International Finals. They also received a cash prize of 1,000 Euros, and have the chance of landing a job at L’Oréal when spotted by executives at the International Finals.
"It is with great pride for me to say that among the key drivers of business growth in L’Oréal Philippines are young marketers who started as Brandstorm finalists," Rowel Vijandre, L’Oréal Philippines Managing Director, said.
“I have seen how this program has been pivotal in forming great young talents who will be the influential movers of the beauty business in the country in the future. We are a beauty company who believes in investing in potential and, for seven years, Brandstorm has been a true testament to that," he added.
