WORLD SPORTS: Blue Jays win division, A's hires female coach
Blue Jays lock up first division title since 1993
The Toronto Blue Jays clinched their first division title in 22 years by clobbering the Baltimore Orioles, 15-2, Wednesday behind a career high five-hit performance from shortstop Ryan Goins.
The Jays fittingly captured the American League East Division with a blowout victory as they lead the league in that category, having scored 10 or more runs 26 times this season.
Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak each hit home runs for the Jays in the first game of a doubleheader against the Orioles at Camden Yards. Bautista's solo homer in a five-run ninth inning was his 40th of the season.

A's hire major league's first female coach
Justine Siegal became the first female coach in Major League Baseball history when the Oakland A's announced Tuesday night she had been hired to serve as a guest instructor.
Siegal, who will work in the A's instructional league camp in Arizona from October 4-17, was the first woman to coach in men's professional baseball when she served as a first base coach for the Brockton Rox, a minor league club, in 2009. -- Agence France-Presse
Jeb Bush says NFL's Redskins should keep controversial name
Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush said the Washington Redskins should keep their controversial name despite complaints from some Native American groups and members of Congress that it is racist.
"I don't find it offensive," Bush said in a taped interview to air on Friday on the Sirius XM radio show "The Arena." "Native American tribes generally don't find it offensive."
Some Native American groups have said "Redskins" is a slur and are calling for the team to change the name.
"I don't think (they) should change it," Bush said. "But again, I don't think politicians ought to be having any say about that, to be honest with you." -- Steve Ginsburg, Reuters

Brilliant Konta stuns Halep as shocks roll in Wuhan
Britain's Johanna Konta pulled off a stunning third-set revival on Wednesday as she floored top seed Simona Halep in the biggest upset yet at the shock-prone Wuhan Open.
It was the most remarkable result so far of what has been a highly unpredictable tournament in central China after a rash of upsets and retirements.
Last year's winner Kvitova had looked exhausted after Tuesday's three-set tussle with Daria Gavrilova, and it was no surprise when she went down to US Open finalist Roberta Vinci. -- Annabel Symington, Agence France-Presse
