Thompson dethrones Curry in 3-point shootout

Golden State sharpshooter Klay Thompson earned bragging rights over superstar teammate Steph Curry when he out-dueled the reigning MVP to win the 2016 Three-Point Shootout at the All-Star Weekend in Toronto.

Thompson was on fire from start to finish, netting 22 in the opening round to advance. Curry missed his first three shots but gained his rhythm down the stretch to finish with 21, to also advance to the finals.

They faced off against Phoenix rookie Devin Booker, the youngest player in the NBA, who edged James Harden and JJ Redick in a 30-second elimination round after all three players finished with 20 points in the first round.

Booker had 16 points in the final round, and Curry, the defending champion, netted 23.

Thompson blew him away with 27 points in the final round, however, to dethrone his teammate as the league's three-point king.

"It's always fun going against Steph… he makes me better every day in practice," said Thompson, who is shooting 42% from beyond the arc this season.
