Pinay is TGIFriday's first female world bartending champ

MANILA -- Rizza Umlas became the first female to win the TGIFriday’s World Bartender Championship held recently at the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas.

This is the first time in 25 years that a female has won the prestigious bartending contest.

The 21-year-old who works at TGIFriday's Glorietta was also the competition's youngest winner.

According to a statement released by TGIFriday's Philippines, Umlas impressed the judges with her "accurate pouring skills, guest interaction and engagement, flawless bottle flipping techniques, suave moves, and winning personality."

She topped both the compulsory and freestyle rounds, where she bested 10 of the best mixers from around the world.

"This is such a great honor not just for myself but for TGIFriday's Philippines and for the whole country as well," Umlas said.

"I am so overwhelmed with joy right now especially after what I had to go through to get to this round. It was a really tough competition," she added.

Placing second was Peru's Alex Barrenechea from Peru, while Russel Ward from the UK finished third.
