LOOK: New 'Power Rangers' film costumes revealed

MANILA - The first look at the new costumes for the upcoming "Power Rangers" reboot was released via Entertainment Weekly Thursday evening.

It seems that fans of the beloved franchise are in for something a little different when the film hits theaters in March next year.

Instead of donning spandex outfits, the teenage heroes of the film will wear costumes that are "translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies," the magazine noted.

"Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans," the film's production designer Andrew Menzies explained.

Produced by Lionsgate, the "Power Rangers" reboot will star Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.

It will be directed by Dean Israelite.
