PH bet wins first Man of the Year pageant

MANILA – It seems that August is a good month for the Philippines when it comes to pageants.

Karan Singhdole, a 23-year-old model and hotel and restaurant management student from Sta. Rosa, Laguna, won the first-ever Man of the Year pageant held in Pekanbaru, Indonesia.

He is a full-blooded Indian, but was born and raised in the Philippines.

“Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs, the one who accepts you for who you are, the one who would do anything to see you smile and love you no matter what. Thank you, Philippines, this is for you. I love you all,” Singhdole wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

The Man of the Year pageant looks for “a man who represents five words: masterly, mindful, manly, masculine and modern.”

Tarek Moaykel of Lebanon finished first runner-up, followed by Tim Bertrans of the Netherlands, Trinh Xuan Nhan of Vietnam and Arirefai of Indonesia.

Days before Singhdole’s victory, a Filipina was crowned Miss Asia in India. Trixia Maria Marana, also 23 years old, bested 17 other contestants in the pageant.

The Philippines is set to host Miss Universe, one of the world’s biggest beauty pageants, in January next year.
