Waze app to roll out Filipino voice command

Navigation app Waze is set to roll out voice commands in the Filipino language.

With this, drivers will no longer need to touch their phones to update destinations, a feature that may prove useful with the upcoming enforcement of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.

e"There's a new regulation with the anti-distracted driving law, on hands-free use... In response to that, we are launching a complete suite in Filipino, a Filipino navigation voice that includes the street names and also allow drivers to do hands-free voice command in Filipino," Waze Asia Pacific Region lead Mona Weng said.

Weng said the app's Filipino-speaking mode will be released next month, a few days after the new road safety law takes effect on July 6.

The law prohibits the use of mobile phones and other communication gadgets while behind the wheel.

For now, Weng said Waze is focused on helping improve Metro Manila traffic, but added that the company wants to expand to Cebu and other congested metropolitan areas. - ANC Headlines, 24 June 2017
