Hello Kitty to get Hollywood treatment
MANILA – Hello Kitty, one of Japan’s most beloved cartoon characters, will soon get her first Hollywood movie.
Sanrio, New Line Cinema, and FlynnPictureCo have teamed up to develop an English-language feature film for the first time in Hello Kitty’s 45-year history.
This is the first time that Sanrio has granted film rights to Hello Kitty to a major studio.
The partnership also includes other Sanrio characters such as Gudetama, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars, to name a few.
“I am extremely pleased that Hello Kitty and other popular Sanrio characters will be making their Hollywood debut,” said Sanrio founder, president, and chief executive officer Shintaro Tsuji.
“Hello Kitty has long been a symbol of friendship, and we hope this film will only serve to grow that circle of friendship around the world,” he added.
The upcoming Hello Kitty movie will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
