Arnel Pineda's story inspires upcoming Hollywood film

MANILA – After the acclaimed 2012 documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey," Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda will be the subject of another Hollywood movie.

According to Pineda, he will appear in the movie to be released by Warner Bros. but another actor will be cast to play him.

“I will do some parts pero baka mag-workshop muna ako. Alam ko kukuha sila ng Hollywood actor na magpe-play na ako at dapat mag-aral siya ng Tagalog,” he said.

Pineda said the movie will be part of a reality talent search that aims to inspire artists who are dreaming of launching an international career.

The grand winner of "Asian Music Camp" will win US$1 million and a recording contract. Auditions will start in January next year.

“Noong una ayoko sana pero kasama na ito ng pag-start ng music camp natin. Ang nangyari kasi sa akin is an extraordinary story so kailangan kasama siya para ma-inspire ang lahat ng aspiring musicians out there na hindi nabigyan ng chance na ituloy lang ang dreams nila,” he said.

Arnel Pineda leaves Sugar Ray vocalist starstruck

MANILA – The frontman of the American band Sugar Ray said he got starstruck after meeting Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda at the “ASAP” studio.

Appearing on the musical variety show on Sunday, Mark McGrath said he did not know what to do when he met Pineda backstage.

“I met Arnel right over there. Arnel Pineda, I am starstruck. I don’t know what to do. He’s representing the Filipinos all over the world. I love Arnel,” he said.

McGrath and the rest of the band are currently in Manila for a one-night concert on Monday at the Araneta Coliseum.

According to McGrath, this is his first time to visit the Philippines and his experience has been overwhelming so far.

“We just got in last night. Everybody is so warm and generous and welcoming. It’s been a long overdue time for Sugar Ray to come here. Thank you for all the love. The Filipino people are so kind,” he said.

McGrath said he cannot wait to perform before all their Filipino fans on Monday and relive the '90s.

“We re looking forward to Monday night at the Araneta Coliseum. You will hear the best songs from the '90s,” he said.

Journey's Manila concert cancelled

The Manila concert of the American band Journey fronted by Filipino singer Arnel Pineda has been cancelled.

The concert, which was initially scheduled on March 21 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, was canceled “due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances,” Journey said in a statement posted on the SM Tickets website.

“We apologize for any inconvenience brought about by this decision to the fans and we are looking forward to performing to our Filipino fans in the near future,” it added.

Those who have bought tickets to the concert may have them refunded.

In a separate statement, Pineda admitted that ticket sales to the concert have been "slow."

"Due to the extreme importance of the Easter holiday in my home country, as well as the deserved widespread media attention on the upcoming election in Manila, the ticket sales for Journey's upcoming show have understandably been somewhat slow," Pineda said.

"We have decided it is best for everyone to postpone the Manila concert until the next time Journey tours in Asia. We are very sorry that we won't be able to see our fans this year, but we will see you again soon. You know we all love to play in Manila!" he added.

Journey’s show in Manila is part of an Asian tour. The band first performed with Pineda in March 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Meanwhile, another concert featuring nine rock bands has been canceled. Those who bought tickets to “Smash Project,” which has been scheduled at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on March 8, can also have their tickets refunded at SM Tickets.

The concert includes American punk rock band All Time Low, Canadian pop rock band Sum 41, American metalcore bands Miss May I and Of Mice and Men, French pop punk band Chunk! No Captain Chunk! and We Start Partys, among others.

Arnel Pineda welcomes baby girl

MANILA, Philippines – Journey lead vocalist and Filipino pride Arnel Pineda's wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Friday.

Pineda, in a series of posts on his official Twitter page, confirmed that his wife Cherry gave birth to Thea Chenelle at around 6 p.m. on Friday.

"Welcome to the world our new little bundle of joy and angel. Baby Thea Chenelle has officially arrived last night around 6 p.m.," Pineda tweeted.

The international singing sensation also thanked those who offered prayers for the well-being of his wife and daughter, and took to the micro-blogging site to show his appreciation for "mothers' sacrifice."

"Thanks to all the offered prayers. Both my wife and the little angel made it. I came to conclusion that the mothers are one of the bravest and most noble for the sacrifice they're making just to deliver the baby safe," Pineda said.

Pineda is also known to have a son, Cherub.

Pineda, who was born and raised in Manila, joined the American band Journey as its lead vocalist in 2007, after members of the long-running rock band found videos of the Pinoy pride singing their hits on video-sharing site YouTube.

Pineda, who replaced Journey's original vocalist Steve Perry, has since gone on tour with the band, and was recently made the subject of a film chronicling his rise to fame.
