Rocco Nacino ditches meat in favor of gulay

There's no doubt about Rocco Nacino's growing popularity with girls, who find his Pinoy features, boyish charm, dance moves, and fit body as swoon-worthy.

During the press launch of The Good Daughter last February 7, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) got to ask him how he stays in shape.

He answered, "Right now I'm dieting 'cos I want...kasi right now, I'm preparing for Lam-Ang, yung indie movie na gagawin ko."

Lam-Ang or The Lam-Ang Experiment is an upcoming indie movie that will be produced by Ilocos Governor Imee Marcos.

The young actor resumed, "I'm dieting, ahm... working out.

"And then I'm working out, me and Kuya Raymond [Bagatsing] a, sinasabayan niya ako sa workout ko."

Raymond plays his stepfather in The Good Daughter.

Rocco is also into Wing Chun—which, according to the book Weng Chun Kung Fu, is a "concept-based Chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling, while specialising in close-range combat."

He related, "I practice wing chun with Raymond and may pinakilala siya sa 'kin, si Robert Greene. He's a special force siya sa States at chief po siya sa wing chun.

"And I'm taking that up for meditation and martial arts.

"And I'm still doing muay thai, boxing, and jiu-jitsu."

And how does he fit every thing in his schedule?

His reply: "Basta may oras ako, basta may oras ako I, I give my time. Like minsan, minsan mali nga, e, kasi pagod ako minsan, pero I want to work out.

"I want to train jiu-jitsu, pero kapag may oras."

And since he's busy taping for his series with Kylie Padilla, he's thinking of doing his workouts on the set during his breaks.

The StarStruck alumnus said, "Ang oras ko ngayon taping, so I do more of meditations, weights, wing chun—workout na puwede ko dalhin sa taping."

FROM CARNIVORE TO HERBIVORE. Ladies, pay attention to this: Rocco is a morning person who loves "heavy breakfast."

He related, "I'm making a point to eat anything sa morning, kasi kailangan ko, gano'n ako, e. Morning person ako na kailangan may pagkain ako sa umaga.

"Heavy breakfast, then come lunch and dinner pababa nang pababa, pababa nang pababa yung intake ko.

"At para ano, para ma-maintain yung pagda-diet ko."

What's his favorite food?

The Kapuso actor answered, "More fruits, more... I'm eating more vegetables now, which is good. Dati kasi hindi ako naggu-gulay, e."

Since he entered showbiz, he became more health conscious.

Rocco said, "Meat eater ako, e. I'm a carnivore.

"Ngayon, medyo hindi ko alam kung bakit ko naa-appreciate ang lettuce, ang cabbage, ang cucumber, ang carrots, it's a good thing.

"It's a good thing that I'm eating more vegetables and I still think that, ano yun, e, I'll be healthier.

"Para ano pagtanda natin, kailangan din natin 'yan, e.

"It's good that as young as my age right now, kumakain ako ng gulay." -- Elli Alipio, PEP
