Hong Kong Tourism Board wants closer ties with Boracay

KALIBO, Aklan - The Hong Kong Tourism Board wants stronger and better complementation between the tourism efforts of Boracay and that of Hong Kong.

Rommel Evangelista, Philippine representative of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, said in an interview that they are looking into the possibility of holding at least six major Chinese festivals so as to promote Hong Kong's tourism among Boracay tourists.

Evangelista was in Aklan on Friday for the launch of Cebu Pacific’s new Hong Kong-Kalibo route.

"Since the Hong Kong-Kalibo flight has just started, everything is yet in the pipeline. We hope to lure more tourists in Central Philippines to visit Hong Kong and enjoy our festivities," said Evangelista, who is also the executive director of the Flight Care Aviation Philippines Inc.

Philippine tourism proponents, for their part, believe that greater cooperation between the officials of Kalibo, Boracay, and Hong Kong will also redound to greater interest for Hong Kong travellers considering Boracay, which in turn would also boost Kalibo’s push to promote its airport.

Two of the six festivals to be featured are the Chinese New Year Festival and the Spring Lantern Festival. "We believe that the Kalibo-Hong Kong flight would also boost our tourism industry in Hong Kong," he added.
