ABS-CBN News unveils Halalan 2013 site, app

MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs unveiled on Wednesday a triad of digital products aimed at helping Filipinos arm themselves with 2013 polls information when and where they want it, and be actively engaged in patrolling the elections.

The Halalan 2013 microsite, accessible via halalan2013.abs-cbnnews.com, contains an extensive array of election-related news and information.

The microsite also offers a first-of-its-kind experience for the Filipino voter via a tracker of social media buzz and search on candidates and election events, which offer unique look at new election information as they unfold.

The Halalan 2013 site is also home to ABS-CBN’s web exclusives on the elections.

These include the "KampanyaSerye" multimedia series, an in-depth look on political platforms, issues and personalities carried by Channel 2, ANC news programs and ABS-CBNnews.com.

ABS-CBN News' special coverage of the elections, including the program "Harapan 2013" of ANC, will also be available via live-streaming on the microsite.

Rounding up the package of ABS-CBN News’ offerings for the elections are the refurbished BMPM microsite, and the enhancements for the Comelec Halalan 2013 mobile application.

Equipped with election-related information, Filipino voters can now become proactive Bayan Patrollers, via the new Bayan Mo, I-Patrol Mo page, accessible through bmpm.abs-cbnnews.com.

This site also serves to highlight and showcase outstanding Bayan Patroller reports, announce and share with the community BMPM events and how-tos.

Version 2 of the Comelec Halalan 2013 mobile application, meanwhile, allows users to access the same election-related information and news on the go.

Now available for Android phones and devices, and Windows 8 phones, the updated app allows voters to complete their own “ballot” by choosing from the app’s list of Senate candidates and party-list groups. It also allows users to look themselves up in the updated voters’ list.

A feed of mycomelec.tv is likewise accessible via the app, as well as the complete contact details of all Comelec offices around the country.

These are in addition to the already-existing features of the app, including the Voter Status Checker, where one can check status of registration and eligibility for the elections; the Precinct Finder, which assists the voter in locating his precinct or polling place; and the Halalan 101, which provides the public with information regarding the elections, such as important dates and polling instructions.

The Halalan 2013 and BMPM microsites, as well as the Comelec app enhancement, were released at the start of the campaign season for national posts, exactly 90 days before the 2013 midterm elections.
