Arum to meet Marquez for Pacquiao V

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum is due to hold a discussion with Mexico’s Juan Manuel Marquez regarding the supposed fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao.

According to Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz, the Top Rank CEO will be meeting Marquez on Wednesday.

“We have to figure what the deal is,” Arum said, referring to Marquez’s “reluctance” to fight Pacquiao again.

The Mexican, who knocked the Filipino out last December, earlier said that his business with Pacquiao is already done.

Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain even said they wanted to fight Brandon Rios, instead of Pacquiao.

But Arum believes the statements mentioning Rios are baiting Pacquiao to chase Marquez. “He (Marquez) is not negotiating with me,” he said. “He is negotiating with Manny.”

Meanwhile, Arum said Pacquiao-Marquez V could still be staged in the US despite the huge taxes being imposed by the Internal Revenue Service.

Arum cited that the US government gives tax credits despite the 39% tax on the boxers’ revenues.

“It's obvious more money will be made fighting in the US,” said Arum. “[Pacquiao] has to find out what the economic differences are and if it’s a little then its obvious where he should fight.”

Pacquiao reportedly wanted his last few fights outside the US because of tax issues.
