MANILA, Philippines -- Local celebrities joined the estimated 1.2 billion Roman Catholics all over the world in welcoming Pope Francis, the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, was elected to be the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday.
On the microblogging site Twitter, celebrities such as Ruffa Gutierrez, Bianca Gonzales and Anne Curtis hailed the new pope.
