Will Atom Araullo join showbiz?

MANILA -- ABS-CBN reporter Atom Araullo admitted that there are offers for him to do acting projects but said he simply can't do it.

"Hindi kasi pwede sa mga reporters. Hindi kami pwedeng mag-crossover. Mayroon akong mga kaibigan sa theater, sa film, kasi I was acting when I was younger. They talk to me if I’m interested in specific roles. Unfortunately, hindi talaga pwede," Araullo said in an interview on Tuesday.

"Generally speaking, as a profession, hindi talaga nangyayari iyon. Kasi people like journalists as journalists, entertainers as entertainers, I guess. I’m not sure if that will change in the future. But that’s how it is now. Ito talaga ang trabaho ko," he added.

Sexy reporter

In the interview, Araullo was also asked for his reaction to online polls that list him among the sexiest reporters.

"Syempre I’m flattered. Sino ba naman ang hindi matutuwa? But I don’t see myself as sex symbol. Growing up, I always felt a little awkward. So, that’s certainly something new, pero I’m not complaining," he said.

Araullo said that with his work, it's a conscious effort to really look good on television.

"We have to be conscious of how we look to a certain extent. But not so much. It’s a far second consideration. But, yes, we have to take care of our fitness at least. It’s not so much the looks. They get past that very quickly," he added.

Aside from co-hosting "Umagang Kay Ganda," Araullo is also hosting News and Current Affairs show "Hiwaga," which airs every Friday at 4:15 p.m..

"This is a higher gear. Noong nagsimula kami, karamihan sa topics naming, nasa paranormal. Now, we’re trying to discuss things that are unexplained, but more on natural phenomenon, like sleepwalking, hypnosis, kulam," he said.

Araullo said hosting "Hiwaga taught him "to keep an open mind."

Ako hindi ako nakakakita or nakakaramdam.
