FDA: Nagaraya product recalled

MANILA - The Department of Health's (DOH) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday said the distributor of Nagaraya has recalled a batch of the product's Cracker Nut Original Butter Flavor for high levels of aflatoxin.

The FDA, in a press statement, said Food Industries, Inc., initiated the recall of its Nagaraya Cracker Nut Original Butter Flavor (160 grams) identified under Lot No. 14019 with expiry date01242015F, which was found to contain an unacceptable level for aflatoxin.

"The recall involves only the specified product under the mentioned lot number and no other Nagaraya variants and sizes are affected by the recall," the FDA said.

Aflatoxins are produced by fungi species. The US FDA allows low levels of aflatoxins in nuts, seeds, and legumes.

"Consumers who have purchased Nagaraya Cracker Nut Original Butter Flavor (160 grams) under Lot No. 14019 are advised to contact the Sales Department of Food Industries, Inc. at 810-0141," the FDA said,

It added that the public may also send their queries and other concerns to the FDA via email at info@fda.gov.ph.

"The public is hereby assured that the FDA conducts continuous monitoring and market surveillance of all peanut-based food products for the purpose of ensuring protection of public health," the agency said.
