Himig Handog singer may face frustrated homicide charge

MANILA – Police are now ready to file charges against 19-year-old recording artist Sherwynn Andrada after he stabbed his friend, John Matthew Tamonte, several times last Thursday night in Makati.

According to Major Reynaldo Gardoque, chief of the investigation section of the Makati police, they are just waiting for the decision of the victim’s family if they want to push through with the case.

Gardoque said Andrada’s family had allegedly asked the Tamontes not to charge the young singer anymore, as they promised to shoulder all of the victim’s hospital expenses.

In case the Tamontes would want to hold Andrada criminally accountable, Gardoque said they will charge the 19-year-old with frustrated homicide and serious physical injuries.

As of writing, Tamonte is now under stable condition at the Ospital ng Makati, while Andrada is still at large.

Authorities said they still have to conduct further investigation to determine Andrada’s real motive since he was the one who invited Tamonte to his house.

Andrada was a former finalist of the songwriting contest Himig Handog and is also a recording artist of Star Records. -- from a report by Dennis Datu, DZMM
