Security for Pope Francis 3 times stricter than for SONAs

MANILA - Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda maintained there is no specific threat to the visit of Pope Francis.

He assured, however, that the government continues to focus on security preparations and that papal events will be orderly.

Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said President Benigno Aquino III met with security officials to personally assess the plans for Pope Francis, who will be arriving on January 15.

Roxas said the security plan is three times stricter than the ones being implemented during State of the Nation Addresses (SONAs).

Meanwhile, Lacierda said he has no information whether the recent arrest of an Abu Sayyaf leader is related to the visit.
