Pasay City councilor shot at Las Piñas mall
Gunshots were heard at a mall in Las Piñas Saturday night, witnesses have said, prompting people to run for cover.
In an interview on dzMM minutes after reports of the incident broke on social media, Chief Superintendent Tomas Apolinario of the Southern Police District said the shooting happened outside SM Southmall.
Chief Senior Superintendent Marion Balonglong, of the Las Piñas City Police, identified the victim as Pasay City Councilor Borbie Rivera.
Rivera was brought to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa for medical treatment.
Balonglong said a man approached Rivera while he was waiting outside Door 4 of SM Southmall in his wheelchair and shot him several times.
He added that the unidentified gunman escaped after Rivera's men allegedly retaliated.
Police investigation is ongoing.
On June 23, Rivera sustained multiple gunshot wounds after he was ambushed in Pasay City.
Rivera was arrested in April 2015 on charges of murder. He was released in April 2016 after the court junked the case.
In a statement, SM Supermalls said SM Southmall has resumed normal operations.
The area where the shooting happened has been temporarily closed, it said.
Based on videos shared on social media, people at the scene could be seen stricken with panic
