While DeMarcus Cousins continues to make progress in his comeback while nearing a return to practice with the Golden State Warriors, he seems to be enjoying his time off the court -- even when he gets heckled on the road.
In street clothes for Golden State's Sunday night game against the Nuggets in Denver, Cousins got a kick out of a fan berating the veteran center for signing with the Warriors in the offseason after previous stints with the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans.
The fan, wearing a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, claimed Cousins "ruined the NBA" and "destroyed the league" by taking a pay cut to sign with the defending league champions.
Cousins, who signed a one-year, $5.3 million contract with the Warriors and will be a free agent after this season, just looked back with a smile on his face, almost in disbelief, at the angry young fan.
Recovering from a torn Achilles injury, Cousins will be cleared to participate in controlled drills during team practices soon.
In an injury update, the Warriors reported Monday: "DeMarcus continues to make good progress with his rehabilitation program. After spending the last few weeks doing various individual on-court activities and drills, he will, in the near future, be integrated into controlled aspects of team practices, although not scrimmages at this point. Additionally, he will continue with his off-court strength and conditioning."
Cousins sustained a season-ending Achilles injury with the Pelicans on Jan. 26, playing in only 48 games last season. In 2017-18, he reached his fourth consecutive All-Star Game, and finished the season averaging 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
