New Netflix series 'The Politician' premieres in London

LONDON - The new Netflix series "The Politician" had a special screening on Monday at the Ham Yard Hotel in London.

The 8-part series is a comedic and satirical presentation of what it takes to make a politician.

Starring Ben Platt (Payton Hobart) and created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, the show is about an affluent student from Santa Barbara who had known since age seven that he wants to be the President of the United States.

The red carpet special screening was attended by Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, and Laura Dreyfuss, with the Q&A hosted by broadcaster Edith Bowman.

Boynton, who recently gained worldwide fame for her acclaimed role in the Queen big screen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," praised senior actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange for their depth, saying the experience working with them was "daunting."

Platt, for his part, described "The Politician" as digestible, satirical, and something that will engage the young people in politics.

He also compared working in theater and in film, with the latter allowing more creative "processing" of his acting.

Other stars of "The Politician" include Paltrow, Lange, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, and Benjamin Barrett.

The series will be available on Netflix starting September 27.
