Lazada says it can now deliver essential goods

MANILA -- Online shopping platform Lazada announced on Monday that it can now deliver essential goods to customers in the Philippines.

In a Facebook post, Lazada said users can now order alcohol and hand sanitizers, personal care and baby care items, vitamins and supplements, household cleaning supplies, fresh meat and vegetables, canned goods, snacks, beverages, and pet care items, among others.

Its cash on delivery option, however, is temporarily suspended "to facilitate faster deliveries as well as ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and customers."

"We seek your patience as delays in delivery are expected," Lazada said. "Our team is working tirelessly to uphold the best service standards."

Lazada earlier suspended its logistics operations in the Philippines as the country's battle against the novel coronavirus continues.

It has since been encouraging users to donate to medical frontline workers and families affected by the COVID-19 crisis through the platform.
