MANILA — Comedian Babajie passed away on Monday due to pneumonia, a family member announced. He was 35.
Babajie, whose real name is Alfredo Cornejo, Jr., died past 3 p.m. at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, PEP.ph reported.
"Maaga pa, bata ka pa, alam mo Kuya na mahal na mahal kita," Cid Cornejo, a cousin of Babajie, wrote on Facebook.
Babajie, who was formerly part of "Bubble Gang," was known for his self-deprecating jokes about his chin.
Babajie, who had been confined since April 25, is survived by his mother, Minda, and siblings Almin, Alina, and Aljohn.
While pneumonia is a symptom of the novel coronavirus disease, and San Lazaro Hospital is caring for COVID-19 patients, Babajie's family made no mention of the comedian being infected with the disease.
