WATCH: Chito Miranda's set for 'Bayanihan, Musikahan'

MANILA — He began his online live show with a couple of disclaimers: that he’s neither used to performing alone, nor that he’s particularly good with the guitar. 

He also admitted suffering from stage fright still, even with all the years he has as a musician. 

This will no doubt make you wonder why Chito Miranda agreed to do this then, but the answer’s really simple —the Parokya ni Edgar frontman just wants to help out in this time of crisis, and spread a little joy to his fans cooped up inside their homes. 

Miranda performed for “Bayanihan, Musikahan,” a fundraising initiative from local artists to support, among other causes, the urban poor who are unable to make a living during the ongoing quarantine period. 


He also dedicated his show to healthcare workers and frontliners against the coronavirus: “They’re fighting this war for us.” 

Miranda filled his set with his band’s relatively mellow hits such as “Sampip,” “Harana,” and “Sorry Na,” to name a few. It was a conscious decision, admitting that they were easier to play and that he rarely gets to sing them during their regular gigs. 

He was the last of the artists scheduled for Thursday. Juris, known for her heartbreak tunes, was also part of the day’s lineup.

Chito Miranda: My integrity cannot be bought

MANILA - ''I'm pretty sure that my opinions aren't worth P2M. But my integrity is intact, and people are aware of that, and that is worth a lot more than 2 million bucks.''

These were the words of Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda after he revealed that he was offered money to endorse a presidential candidate.

On Friday, the 39-year-old Miranda took to Instagram to air his thoughts on the twists and turns that surrounded the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for president for the upcoming 2016 elections.

A total of 130 submitted their COCs for president, which included Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, Vice President Jejomar Binay, Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas, and independent candidate Grace Poe.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was urged to run but reiterated that he never had any intentions on becoming president moments before the deadline.



Miranda started his post by admitting that Binay's son-in-law is a good friend of his and that Roxas is a friend of his uncle.

"They both understand, however, that this is not simply about friendship. It is about who I think is most capable of improving the current state of our country," he wrote. "Gusto ko sana si Duterte pero di naman tumakbo."

"Pero honestly, mas trip ko sana si Miriam pero pinag-aaralan ko pa why she chose Bongbong. She must know something that I don't and I'm pretty sure that she's a lot smarter than I am."

"She wouldn't have chosen him if she felt that he wasn't the right choice. I've read about his accomplishments and modernization projects, and I must admit, they are very impressive regardless kung pro or anti-Marcos ako."

"Pero sa ngayon, parang mas trip ko si Cayetano or si Robredo."

"Cayetano seems to know all the right questions to ask whenever may ginigisa sila sa Senate. While si Robredo naman, seems super matino and trustworthy, and sa panahon ngayon, for me, that may be enough."

Miranda concluded: "Anyway, since wala si Duterte, tingin ko it's time for Plan B. Goodluck sa ating lahat! God bless the Philippines."

Chito Miranda brings sex video case to NBI

MANILA -- Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda wants to track down the suspect behind the leak of his controversial sex video with girlfriend Neri Naig.

The 37-year-old singer brought the case to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday to request a probe into the circulation of the private video.

In his affidavit submitted to NBI Director Nonnatus Rojas, Miranda cited a violation of the Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.

If proven guilty of the violation, the one who leaked the video may be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined up to P500,000.

When the sex video scandal erupted early this month, Miranda said his room had been robbed. A hard drive, which contained the video among other files, were allegedly among those lost in the theft.

On Tuesday, NBI cybercrime division head agent Ronaldo Aguto said the agency has already launched an investigation and expressed confidence that they will track down the suspect behind the video's spread.

Last Saturday, Miranda only laughed off reports that a certain Alfonso Yanga Miranda who claimed to be his "son" was the one who released the sex video. In an open letter posted on Facebook, "Alfonso" said he was behind the robbery of Miranda's room.

The singer, however, only made light of the post.

What would Taberna, Babao ask Chito Miranda

MANILA Philippines -- Broadcast journalist Anthony Taberna hopes to tackle the Chito Miranda-Neri Naig sex video scandal in his newest TV program "TNT: Tapatan Ni Tunying," which airs every Thursday.

Taberna, who is known for his hard-hitting commentaries and interviews, said he has only one question for Miranda.

"Bakit? Bakit mo ginawa 'yon? Bakit ka nag-video, bakit ka nag-record eh recording artist ka na," Taberna said in a press conference on Tuesday.

Taberna admitted he watched the video just to find out if the footage is authentic. He also believes that Miranda and Naig were not the ones who released the video.

"Kailangan bang sumikat ni Chito eh sikat na sikat naman si Chito. Lalong hindi kailangan ng babae at kahihiyan niya 'yon, ibibilad niya ba ang sarili sa kahihiyan. Sa palagay ko hindi pwedeng sinadya nilang gawin 'yon para ilabas sa publiko. Mas pinaniniwalaan ko 'yung ninakaw at ang gusto kong malaman ay kung sino ang nagnakaw at sinadya bang nakawin. Baka kasi may nakakaalam na may ganoon at sinadyang nakawin," Taberna explained.

"Hindi na ito kay Chito at Neri, ang gusto kong malaman dito ay pwede bang pagbutihan ng gobyerno ang paghahanap sa mga cyber criminals na ito. Kasi ngayon may TRO sa anti-cyber crime law, hindi natin magamit ang provision ng batas laban sa nag-upload niyan o nagpasa kasi suspended 'yung effectivity ng batas. Baka ngayon maging isang argument 'yan for the implementation of that law. Kasi may kakayahan ang gobyerno para ma-trace kung sino originally ang nag-upload niya," Taberna said.

Meanwhile, broadcast journalist Julius Babao said he is open to help Miranda and Naig to get justice via his show "Bistado," which airs every Monday.

"Kung lalapit sila sa amin, we can help them at pwede namin silang dalhin sa authorities para mapabilis ang pag-solve sa crime. Kasi hindi mabilis i-solve yon. Si Chito lang siguro ang makakaalam noon, kasi kapag sa bahay nangyari ang nakawan madaling malaman 'yon -- sino ang may access sa house. I'm sure by now alam niya kung sino 'yon. Ang lumalabas parang may motibo na ipahiya, ilabas sa public para pag-usapan o mapahiya," he said.

On Monday, the camp of Miranda said they are considering filing raps against those who leaked and posted photos and a video of him and his girlfriend, in an intimate moment.

Chito Miranda to press charges for leaked video

MANILA -- The camp of Parokya Ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda is now considering filing raps against those who leaked and posted photos and a video of him and his girlfriend, actress Neri Naig, in an intimate moment.

According to Rommel Cajayon of Backbeat Management, which handles the career of Miranda, they are now consulting lawyers to identify the social networking sites that shared the sex video.

Cajayon said Miranda is decided about pressing charges against the unnamed suspects.

After issuing an apology to his family and that of his girlfriend, Miranda's sister Yna Dalisay expressed support to his brother and the actress.

"The family is 100% behind Chito and Neri. I personally think there was absolutely nothing wrong with what they did and for me, there is nothing to be ashamed of or apologized for. Ang may mali 'yung nagnakaw ng video at ang mga patuloy na nagkalat. Alam nila it was meant to be private," Dalisay said.

Talent manager Manny Valera, who handles the career of Naig, also shared the same sentiment.

"Shame on those who continue to share the video on their social networking sites. Let us not judge them. They are people in love. But it's clear that Neri Naig's rights were abused and violated. She did not approve or consented to the uploading of a private video," Valera said.

On Sunday, Miranda showed that everything is okay after he posted a photo of him and Naig on Instagram with caption: "Di nyo kami matitinag." -- With report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
