Mayweather 'parang daga', says Mommy D

MANILA – Dionesia Pacquiao, the mother of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, reiterated she wants her son to retire from boxing.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Dyan Castillejo on Monday, Mommy Dionesia said even Pacquiao’s coach has told her to advise her son to stop boxing.

“Para sa akin, retiro na siya,” she said.

Mommy Dionesia also shared that she knew early on that American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not allow himself to be defeated.

Despite this, Mommy Dionesia said what Mayweather did was to run away, as if telling her son to come after him.

“Alam ko na hindi sila papaya matalo. Ganyan ang ugali nila. Ang ginawa ni Mayweather, runner. Parang daga siya,” she said.

Even though her son lost, Mommy Dionesia said she is still happy because in the hearts of many boxing fans, her son still won.

“Ang lahat ng mga kapwa Pilipino, kahit hindi Pilipino, narinig ko sabi ‘Ikaw pa rin, Manny.’ May Mexicano din na kumausap sa amin na si Manny pa rin ang kampyon nila,” she said.

“Relaks lang kayong mga Pinoy at sa mga umiidolo sa anak ko. Natalo man ang ating boxer sa ring, sa puso ninyo, hindi pa talo. Sa puso natin hindi siya talo. Mahal na mahal natin siya. Siya ang panalo sa taas,” she added.

During the much-hyped "Fight of the Century" at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila), Mayweather backed up his claim of being "The Best Ever" as he out-pointed Pacquiao to win the bout.

The judges scored the bout 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112, giving Mayweather his 48th straight victory.

First-timer Mommy D steals scene on SONA red carpet

MANILA - "First time ko talaga!"

Dionisia Pacquiao exclaimed this in her interview with reporters Monday on the red carpet at the Batasan Pambansa, where the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III was held.

"Masaya ako na maka-attend sa SONA!" she said.

The 65-year-old, the mother of Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, wore a white terno with apple-green, floral details designed by Gin Villamayor.

Pacquiao, who is endearingly called in showbiz as Mommy D, gamely posed for cameras and made several stops to accommodate interviews.

Aside from Pacquiao, several other celebrities walked the SONA red carpet, including Assunta de Rossi, Alfred Vargas, Heart Evanglista, and Richard and Lucy Gomez.

What did Mommy D tell Bradley

MANILA, Philippines – Dionisia Pacquiao, popularly known as “Mommy D,” stole the show during her son’s highly anticipated rematch against Timothy Bradley Jr. Saturday night in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).

Manny Pacquiao put on an impressive display against Bradley, winning a unanimous decision, but “Mommy D” also trended worldwide for her antics during the fight.

“Mommy D” was seen feverishly praying while her son fought, gesticulating wildly and pointing at the ring.

But once the fight was over and Pacquiao was announced the winner, Dionisia climbed the ring and was seen talking to Bradley.

“Masaya ako, dahil ang mama ko, naghingi din ng sorry kay Bradley,” Pacquiao revealed on Monday on "Umagang Kay Ganda." “Nag-apologize (siya), na walang personalan.”

“Nag-sorry naman si Mommy D,” he added.

Dionisia briefly embraced the defeated Bradley after the fight as well.

Bradley lost for the first time in his professional career.

Mommy D's cry of anguish: End boxing stint now

MANILA, Philippines - Dionesia Pacquiao cried in anguish after watching her son’s heartbreaking loss to Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez.

Immediately after seeing her son knocked out, Mommy D – as she is called – pleaded that he already stop from the sport that brought them out of poverty. Manny’s sister, Lisa, also asked that he retire from boxing.

Even the people of General Santos City, from where the boxing icon hails, could not believe what they saw.
