'Rawr rawr!' Waze adds more fun phrases for Mimiyuuuh's voice option

MANILA -- Fans of Mimiyuuuh, take note: traffic app Waze has rolled out this Friday additional fun, new phrases for the popular vlogger's voice option.

Starting this week, you can now have Mimiyuuuh tell you to "turn left! Rawr rawr," or join you in practicing your "vocalizationism" whenever you find yourself stuck in the middle of traffic.

"Thank you po talaga sa mga natuwa sa Waze voice ko po," Mimiyuuuh, who has more than 2.3 million followers on YouTube alone, said over the positive reception.

Mimiyuuuh's voice was first added to the GPS navigational app back in December, the second Filipino celebrity to feature in Waze after Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.

According to Waze, Mimiyuuuh's voice will only be available to users in the Philippines until the end of March 2020. To change your Waze voice option, simply go to Settings, then Voice Directions, then Mimiyuuuh.

Waze app to roll out Filipino voice command

Navigation app Waze is set to roll out voice commands in the Filipino language.

With this, drivers will no longer need to touch their phones to update destinations, a feature that may prove useful with the upcoming enforcement of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.

e"There's a new regulation with the anti-distracted driving law, on hands-free use... In response to that, we are launching a complete suite in Filipino, a Filipino navigation voice that includes the street names and also allow drivers to do hands-free voice command in Filipino," Waze Asia Pacific Region lead Mona Weng said.

Weng said the app's Filipino-speaking mode will be released next month, a few days after the new road safety law takes effect on July 6.

The law prohibits the use of mobile phones and other communication gadgets while behind the wheel.

For now, Weng said Waze is focused on helping improve Metro Manila traffic, but added that the company wants to expand to Cebu and other congested metropolitan areas. - ANC Headlines, 24 June 2017

Google's Waze to start carpooling pilot program

JERUSALEM - Google-owned online mapping company Waze is launching a carpooling pilot program in Israel where commuters pay fellow drivers a small fee for a ride to and from work.

The new application, called RideWith, will use Waze's navigation system to learn the routes drivers most frequently take to work and match them up with people looking for a ride in the same direction.

Google bought Israel-based Waze, which uses satellite signals from members' smartphones to offer real-time traffic information, for about $1 billion two years ago.

"We're conducting a small, private beta test in the greater Tel Aviv area for a carpool concept, but we have nothing further to announce at this time," Waze told Reuters of its foray into the increasingly competitive field of ride-sharing.

Drivers will be limited to just two journeys a day and will not be able to earn a salary from RideWith, a source close to the company said, differentiating it from businesses such as Uber, where drivers can turn a profit.

Should RideWith be rolled out globally, this limitation could help it avoid the backlash Uber is facing in a number of countries that want to protect professional taxi drivers.

Waze does not expect there to be enough drivers to meet demand at first, but as more sign on, passengers will be able to order a ride either to or from work while chipping in a bit for the cost of gas and wear and tear on the car, the source said.
