This, despite several websites already providing the answer either by calling the uploader of the photo herself --identified as singer Caitlin McNeill -- or by talking to scientists to explain how our eyes and brains see color in a sun-lit world.

As of writing, the hashtag #TheDress is still the top most-talked-about topic on Twitter.

Many are still searching for answers, while most chose to poke fun at one of the most recent trivial matters to divide the online world.

This was the question that had social media users abuzz Thursday night (Friday morning Manila time), making the term "The Dress" a worldwide trending topic on Twitter.

The picture of the dress was initially posted on Tumblr by a 21-year-old singer named Caitlin McNeill.

Many see the bodycon dress as sporting the colors white and gold, while others are convinced that it is blue and black.

An article on Wired tried to end the day-long debate, saying that it had an explanation on why people see it differently and it had something to do with the way human eyes and brains have evolved to see color in a sunlit world.

Business Insider, meanwhile, took a less scientific approach. The website called up McNeill and asked about the real color of the dress. Short answer is that the dress is blue and black.
