Jasmine Curtis-Smith deftly balances school and career

Now we see her, now we don’t. And now we see her again. But don’t blink.

If TV5 Princess Jasmine Curtis-Smith is not as visible as her fans would want her to be, it’s because the Australian-based younger sister of superstar actress Anne Curtis continues to shuffle between her school and her showbiz career.

Currently on her Year 12 at Loyola College, in Watsonia, Melbourne, Jasmine is very grateful to the Kapatid network for allowing her to prioritize her studies even as her career continues to blossom at this early stage.

“Considering the flexible time that TV5 gives me, I’m able to balance both school and my career because they let me study and let me have my space there and then when I come here, they’re very generous as they always give me something to do, I’m always busy everyday,” she said during her live interview on “Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed” Saturday afternoon.

Discovered while visiting her sister Anne last year, Jasmine, who already has several commercial endorsements under her belt, quickly became a contract star of TV5.

The network then immediately gave her memorable starring roles including the teleserye remake of “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum”as the love interest of JC De Vera and the mini-series, “Nandito Ako” opposite American Idol sensation David Archuleta.

While she still hasn’t decided whether she will eventually move back in the country Jasmine has made it clear that if and when she does, her studies will remain her primary goal.

Her mother, Carmen Curtis-Smith, who is currently in town to help map out Jasmine’s career plans, admit that unlike Anne who had her sights set on showbiz when she joined it at a young age, Jasmine has always been the studious type.

For someone who is not always around to sustain her career momentum, it’s amazing how Jasmine’s popularity continues to skyrocket with every brief stop during school breaks.

Ate Anne may be on the top of the world these days after topping the list of Yes magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful Stars but Jasmine is also in another equally distinguished and arguably far more exciting company: that of FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women.

Although this is only her first time in the FHM list, her debut ranking of number 80 is nothing to scoff at as she is also ahead of more established names like Alessandra Da Rossi, Rufa Mae Quinto, Karylle, Maxene Magalona and Maricar Reyes.

“Given that I’ve been only here in this industry for a year and a half, I find it flattering na pati sa FHM napasama ako, it’s unbelievable,” the young actress, now 18, exclaimed in disbelief. “I don’t consider myself in that level yet since I’m still young and still innocent.”

Right now, the very innocent Jasmine is taping for the very wholesome “Pidol’s Wonderland” where we will be seeing her for the next four Sundays.
As far as lovelife is concerned, Jasmine and her mom are both one in saying, “it’s not yet time” although Mama Carmen revealed that someone is “hanging around” her precious daughter.

But before her mother could even whisper the guy’s name to “Paparazzi” hosts Zoren Legaspi and Lucy Torres-Gomez, Jasmine let out a cautionary scream.

“Mommy!” she warned.

Suitor or no suitor, Jasmine Curtis-Smith certainly has no shortage of people who love seeing her—even on the small screen that she only gets to occasionally grace with her glowing presence.
