MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos are among the biggest fans of the
phenomenal Korean dance hit “Gangnam Style,” a new study showed Tuesday.
Data released by the website Viki showed that the Philippines ranked
second in terms of views of the Psy hit on YouTube after the Americans.
Canadians ranked third, followed by India and Indonesia. Surprisingly, Psy’s home country Korea was only ninth on the list.
“Gangnam Style” recently became the most viewed video in the history
of YouTube since it started taking off in August of this year.
“YouTube shattered barriers to video sharing and discovery; as a
result, consumer tastes are becoming increasingly global -- people want
something different from what they can watch on their TV sets at home,”
Tammy Nam, Viki’s CMO and general manager, Americas, said in a
statement.
“‘Gangnam Style’ is just one example of many unexpected global hits we’ll see in 2013,” Nam predicted.
