GM Recalls Chevy Silverado and Sierra HD over Fuel Transfer Pump Malfunction

General Motors recalls certain model year 2012-13 Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD vehicles over fuel transfer pump malfunction. The affected vehicles are equipped with 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel engines and dual fuel tanks. In the affected vehicles, the transfer pump could fail to move fuel from the rear tank to the front tank, which may cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading. This could result in unexpected stall of the vehicle increasing the risk of a crash.

The number of affected vehicles reaches over 9,733. The company will notify the owners and dealers will inspect and replace fuel transfer pump free of charge for customers. Notification dates for the recall hasn’t been provided yet. However, all owners are eligible to contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC at 1-800-462-8782 under the campaign number 13420 regarding any questions related to the recall.

Owners of the affected cars can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
