(Editor's note: This article was exclusively written by MoneyMax.ph, the Philippines' leading website for comparing financial products and services, for ABS-CBNnews.com. Find out more at MoneyMax.ph.)

Many consider college as the best four (or more) years of their lives. Wouldn’t you? You're meeting different kinds of people; you’re learning many new things inside and outside the classroom; and you’re world has grown much larger than before you entered.

However, your expenses have also gone up. From photocopying multiple readings to joining school organizations and attending events, you find yourself spending more, and by the end of week, you’re eating pancit canton with a side of siomai or fishballs for lunch. So why not earn while you’re in school?

College is definitely the best time to explore and experience what the world has to offer, and this includes earning opportunities. If you’re a college student, look for ways to earn on the side instead of depending wholly on your allowance, and you may even be able to get a head start on the financial milestones you should aim for in your 20s.

MANILA - Everyone has something they're passionate about. For some, this can start out as a hobby and spin off into a business.

Some people have already done it, through a lot of effort. There are plenty of gateways to put yourself out there when you do decide to make a living doing what you love.

One of the best ways is online, seeing as websites like Etsy, Instagram, and YouTube cater to all manner of creativity. The former is great for people who are excellent artists, while the latter gives rise to a new breed of musician, or film director.

For example, YouTube star PewDiePie (or Felix Arvid Ulf Kjelberg) started out recording his playthroughs of video games alongside his reaction to them. The hilarious combination has led to him breaking website records–-particularly in subscribers--as his fanbase grew from 12 million in 2013 to over 20 Million.

People like Inkscribbler’s Alexis Ventura, Olivia and Diego’s Yana Santiago started out where you are: working in the corporate arena before they took their hobbies and turned them into something more.

The first step is always the hardest, as cliché as that might be. When you know you’re ready, here are a few things you need to keep in mind to make money doing what you love.

Learning To Make Money With Forex Trading

Becoming a professional Forex trader is a popular business path for many interested in making a considerable amount of money with a minimum amount of physical labor. According to a recently conducted BIS survey, the value of all trades on the global currency market is worth a staggering $5.3 trillion a day. Experts estimate that roughly 95 per cent of currency trades made on the Forex market are pure speculation in an effort to make a profit.

Before becoming a Forex trader, it is important to learn about the Forex market. Failure to do your research ahead of time can result in the loss of a lot of your capital very quickly. Spread betting is a term that every Forex trader should understand. Spread betting is making money from the difference between a start value of a currency and its finish value. If the start value is smaller than the finish value, the trader profits from the rise in a price.

The fees that the trader will pay on spread betting will depend on how long the bet is kept open. If the transaction is open for a day or two, the financing charge will likely be small. For bets ranging up to three months, the fee could be considerably more for many of the major currency pairs.

When spread betting, currency traders will often use leverage, which involves borrowing more than their initial deposit amount to trade in the market, typically in an effort to maximize profits. However, if the market swings in an unexpected direction, traders can lose their initial deposit and face a ‘margin call’ for the additional losses sustained in the trades.

Some people think that using leverage will earn them substantial gains, but forget that it could cause substantial losses as well. Excessive leverage can destroy an otherwise winning strategy, producing excessive losses if the trader has a streak of bad luck. Some experts recommend by using no more than 10x effective leverage.

It is important to remember that Forex trading will not be a shortcut to instant wealth. The amount earned in the Forex market is determined mostly by the amount of capital you are willing to risk in the market. Forex trading is a volatile asset class, sometimes recording triple digits swings in a day. Many people like to get started with Forex trading by opening a demo Forex account where they can explore Forex trading without risking their funds. Free guides and online tutorials are also available to help beginners learn about trading in the Forex market.

How a Filipino earned $3000 a month through this website

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino freelance graphic designer is making as much as $3,000 (around P127,000) a month from winning design contests and doing work for clients he found on the website 99designs.com.

In an interview with reporters on Monday, 99designs community director Jason Aiken said there are around 35,000 Filipino designers registered on the website, which is said to be the world's largest graphic design marketplace

Some Filipino designers have even gotten enough income from their 99designs work that they have even quit their regular jobs.

Aiken said a Filipino designer told him he quit his day job, where he earns just $300 a month, since he now earns $3,000 a month, thanks to 99designs.

"There are people who start by testing it out and then they quit their jobs to do this full time... The two people who met us yesterday, they have quit their jobs and work through 99designs exclusively," he said.

Aiken was in town to meet some of the Filipino designers in Manila and Davao City, as part of a regional design community tour. The Philippines is actually one of the top five designer communities for 99designs.

"(The Philippines) is a top 5 designer community for us. We paid around $1.5 million to them last year," he said. The website's top five designer communities also includes US, Serbia, Indonesia and Croatia.

99designs connects businesses looking for design work with more than 220,000 graphic designers from 192 countries around the world. Businesses can launch design contests to the community, buy design templates from 99designs' logo store or work 1-on-1 with individual designers.

"If you need a logo or any graphic design, you can open a project (on 99designs) and the community of designers competes to create a design for you. It allows you to get a wide range of styles so you can find the right design," Aiken said.

A graphic design marketplace

Aiken said the 99designs community is open - anyone can sign up and register. "We wanted to level the playing field. Design could be quite a hard thing to get your foot in the door in... It's a great way for beginning designer to start working on real projects with real clients and getting feedback," he said.

There are around 8,000 new projects on 99designs every month. While the biggest number of jobs on 99designs is for logos, Aiken noted that there is also a demand for designs for apps, websites and book covers.

For a freelancer who is trying to generate client leads, Aiken noted that having these opportunities to do work anytime and to do whatever interests them is "quite appealing."

Plus the pay is quite good, especially for Philippine standards. On the average, the contests on 99designs can pay anywhere from $300 (around P12,700) to as much as $1,500 (around P63,500).

"I think with the Philippines or Indonesia or Serbia, these are places where the differences in economies work out... From a designer's point of view, if I were entering a logo contest, the lowest amount I can get is $200. And $200 in a place like Jakarta or Manila is a different equation than San Francisco," he noted.

To keep up with the growth in the region, 99designs recently hired a staff of three design consultants based in the Philippines. The support staff will help ensure 24/7 customer support for the Asia-Pacific markets and will be available to help customers write design briefs and facilitate their contests.

Since its launch in 2008, 99designs has paid out more than $10 million to graphic designers in the Philippines and Indonesia, more than any other design marketplace has paid out to their entire global design community.
